December, In Review

Friday, December 30, 2011

This month has flown by, I cannot even believe it.

Here are some moments through the month caught on Instagram.

1 / Folded (which is also hard to believe that it's done and over - it was a long long process).
2 / My Parents & In-laws Christmas cards
3 / A new necklace from a dear friend
4 / Dinner with my love for his Mom's birthday (which also happens to be my Mom's)
5 / Christmas Baking
6 / Tree trimming
7 / New record player & first vinyl - Bon Iver, For Emma, Forever Ago
8 / Workspace with my new computer!
9 / The day after Christmas spent sitting at the beach watching my husband surf - this was a first for me for the day after Christmas - which was usually spent bundled up inside in the mid-west.

Here's to the New Year!

Here I go again, showing you another video! This one's about a gift that was made for 37 Signals by Simple.Honest.Work. It's amazing all the little details and work that gets put into each one.

Thanks to my love for showing me this.

Services

I made some illustrations to show what some of my services are for in my little studio.

+ I used some of the illustrations from my Supplies series (more of those to come!)

Favorite Christmas Things : #7 Baking

Friday, December 23, 2011

Who doesn't love this about Christmas? (I shouldn't even post my own picture with this beautiful ones!)

My great-grandmother's sugar cookie recipe (also my favorite cookie of the season)

Favorite Things : #6 Stars

Thursday, December 22, 2011

Like most of my favorite Christmas things, this too involves paper - it's another reminder of how much I love it. We didn't have a star for the top of our tree so I decided I had to make one - and it matches the paper garland and gift wrap. The combination of the brown paper and the green are perfect.

Favorite Things : #5 Paper Goods

Wednesday, December 21, 2011

I had a blast designing and creating Christmas cards for both my parents and in-laws. It's fun how much  each person looks like themselves - even though it's just our face's and hair. Make sure to check out more images here.

Christmas cards for my in-laws!

Favorite Things : #4 Kraft Gift Wrap

Tuesday, December 20, 2011

My obsession with Kraft paper continues with gift wrapping! Adding a bit of gold makes this natural brown paper extra festive.

Loving all the not so perfect Christmas trees and their scraps.

Favorite Things : #2 Paper Garland

This favorite Christmas thing combines with one of my always favorite things : paper!

I made this paper garland by punching circles from kraft paper (with a scrapbooking tool) and fed the circles through my sewing machine in one long line. I think when Christmas is over, these little guys won't be put away like the rest of the decorations.

In honor of Christmas coming in 8 days, I've decided to share with you some of my favorite Christmas things, both in inspiration and my own. Starting with, vintage ornaments. Love the color and shapes of each ornament!

I love coming across New York Times, T Magazine's "T's." They ask various artist to rethink the Times' logo and is featured in each magazine.

They're all so great.

Free People's December Catalog is so pretty. I love all the sweaters.

moving!

We're moving to a new apartment in the next month or so - and I'm super excited because it means we can decorate in a whole new way! We dread the actual act of moving - but I can't wait for this. Plus our new place has an awesome view & a washer and dryer (!).

It's cookie season, and I'm so excited to bake.

I need to make plans for all the cookies I want to make including alphabet cookies!

ABC Mini Cookie Cutter Set

folded

Friday, December 9, 2011

My Senior Art Thesis is now complete! I can say that this is the longest I've spent working on one single project. And I loved doing it. Of course there were times near the end of folding all the triangles, that I thought, is this possible to complete? But I especially liked getting away from working digitally to working more with my hands. Through this process, I've learned that I need to do more physical work and take breaks from my computer more often. I'm hoping this won't be my last piece.

Folded was created as a requirement for graduation. It was on exhibit this past week at my school's Art Gallery. I began the piece by collecting paper. I used all found paper - paper that was given to me, paper I had collected over time, paper from old artworks, paper bags, or paper I bought from old bookstores (I love paper!). I then cut down the paper to 4" x 4" squares. From there I proceeded to fold and glue each into their three-dimensional form. After I had the triangles folded, I counted and mapped out the color pattern. And finally began gluing them all together. In the end the piece has about 3,500 triangles and is about 12 x 13'.

My artist statement:

It's fascinating working with a medium in which a new tactile experience is explored.

A medium that is often regarded as common, but has also created strong connections with its viewers.

Each has a story to tell, from old maps to smaller paper remnants.

These have been taken from their discarded state and folded three-dimensionally to further their transformation.

A transformation that finds order in its details.

A transformation into something beautiful.

show sneak peek

Tuesday, December 6, 2011

Here's a quick sneak peek of my show! It's finally up! It took the majority of the weekend to install, but I'm so thankful for all my amazing family and friends for helping out. I'm already not looking forward to having to take it down! Planning what I will do with it next.

Now, back to normal life again!

I'll share more pictures later!

Be Right Back

Monday, November 28, 2011

I will be back friends, I promise! Get excited, because once my show is done ( next week! ), I'll be working full time freelancing -- so lots of inspiration and work will be shared!

Two Weeks

Monday, November 21, 2011

Lately I've been tweeting, blogging and instagraming lots of things about this project. And I've been quite vague about it. But it's for my Undergrad Senior Art Show (a requirement for graduation). I've been working on this project since last semester and physically working on it almost everyday since August. I'm so excited for it to all come together. And it's almost here. The show opening is two weeks from today and I'm super excited / nervous / stressed about it. Mostly excited of course! So make sure to follow updates as I'm sure I'll be tweeting about it as it comes together - and be sure to check back when it's all complete!

From Heels to Boots

Tuesday, November 15, 2011

I'm excited to show you this banner I created for Briana of the blog "From Heels to Boots." Her blog is about how she's traded in her "city-girl" heels for cowboy boots to work on a calf ranch and all the adventures that occur.

Check out her blog, From Heels to Boots.

Hug A Porcupine

I'm thinking I need to get one of these to wear during my art show - how perfect.

Knot & Bow

Sunday, November 13, 2011

I've become so obsessed with Kraft paper (that brown "paper-bag" like paper) - see my business cards!. I love it's raw texture. So when I came across Knot & Bow, I enjoyed everything.

Business Cards

Friday, November 11, 2011

With my show - comes business cards. I've had a lot of fun brainstorming these. And I was so excited about the custom stamps - one with my logo, the other, my information. I'm officially hooked on custom stamps now, so much so, that I've even decided to create a stamp for part of my show cards. (so more to come!)

The Burning House : Mapscape

If you haven't picked up the fact that I'm obsessed with Madewell, you still have time.

Love these :: both featured on Madewell's Tumblr.

Dribbble

Wednesday, November 9, 2011

I made my first shot on Dribbble last night! I'm not sure what I'm more excited about, that, or because my url is dribbble.com/eva (just eva. not my full name or my last name. just eva - this never happens).

This shot is of one possible logo concept I'm working on for a friend of mine!

Matthew Korbel-Bowers

Tuesday, November 8, 2011

These prints by Matthew Korbel-Bowers are killer.
I love all the colors, lines & shapes.

camel

Monday, November 7, 2011

I've begun a search for a new jacket. The one I currently wear is a bit too thin (and I wear it all the time). I absolutely love a dark tan or camel color,  but not only for jackets - as you can see it's become apart of my branding.

Love these Madewell jackets

Less than a Month

With my Senior Art Show less than a month away (holy smokes), I've become busier than ever. I haven't been blogging very much lately because of it. But trust me, when my shows done, I'll be excited to share more inspiration with you.
