Work Attire

Friday, February 1, 2013

Most of the time when people hear 'working from home', they think, 'oh! wearing your pajama's all day!' -- and maybe some people do! But I feel really uninspired and almost 'blah' if I work in sweats all day. Then I read Megan Gonzalez of Mae Mae Paperie's interview with The Everygirl yesterday, and she's SO right. Megan was talking about how she was inspired after reading Twyla Tharp's, 'The Creative Habit' (which I also highly recommend reading!), she explained...

"Yes—you are an artist, but it’s a job. You can’t show up in your PJ’s and expect brilliant ideas and vibrant patterns to be in your client’s inbox by the end of the day."

What do you guys wear while your working? Do you feel that on days when you make yourself presentable you work better? I know I do. When you feel confident in yourself, your creative + work process will follow. Or does working in sweats versus working in jeans not make a difference to you?

I put together a standard outfit you'll usually catch me wearing - jeans, oversized tee + sweater (because of course you want to at least be comfy) and I can't forget my llama necklace from Madewell that I wear everyday (here's a similar giraffe one!).

Cannot get over these sneakers from Madewell
Perfect for Spring!
Madewell will always be a favorite ( if you can't tell already ).

Winter Layers

Thursday, January 17, 2013

Winter is my favorite time of year because it means layers. Then again, winter in California has a completely different meaning then the rest of the country. The past couple weeks have been quite cold, for Southern California. It's really funny seeing everyone's reaction to it -- have you seen this video? Growing up in the mid-west, I know what cold means, but you really do aclimate to temperatures! Although, that video might be a bit absurd...

Winde Rienstra

Tuesday, January 15, 2013

One of my favorite things in fashion are lines like this. Winde Rienstra's mix between art and fashion. Especially when textures, multi-dimensional forms, and mixes in textiles are involved. They're so beautiful.

Here's a little excerpt from a studio visit with Winde Rienstra --

"With my collections I try to look for the fine line between fashion and art, I find it interesting to see the body as a sculpture in my design. The designs are somewhere between clothing and object..."

Check out the rest of the interview and more images from Winde's studio on Dam Style.

Holiday Gift Guides | For Her : Neutral

Monday, November 12, 2012

In lieu of the Holiday season coming up I thought it would be fun to make some weekly gift guides, sharing some favorite things to give to the ones closest to you. So I'm kicking off the feature with a gift guide for her, featuring a few perfect neutral items!

Stay tuned for more guides for her, him, designers, home and more!

Travel Bags

Tuesday, October 30, 2012

Ryan and I are traveling a bunch in the next couple months and I'm on the look out for a new carry-on bag / purse. The one I have now, is starting to fall apart, due to the fact that it's filled with my computer, books, etc. and the cheap straps can't handle the weight.

Here are a few that stood out while I was on the search!

Summer / Fall Outfit

Wednesday, September 12, 2012

While most of the country seems to be transitioning into at least some what cooler temps, we're still going strong with the weather forecast to be 100* this weekend. But I'm so desperate for fall! It is my favorite time of year, which is kind of non-existent here... so I thought I'd put together a perfect warm fall outfit. Hopefully sweater weather is around the corner?? (probably not).

Can't. Get. Enough.

Mixing Patterns

Wednesday, July 11, 2012

I'm a HUGE fan of mixing patterns (and a huge fan of those shorts!). This outfit is almost identical to the one I wore in Palm Springs. I don't know what it is, I'm just on this kick to mix everything. But I've found a method to the madness, the color. Take these two, both contain bright shades of colors that compliment each other.

What's your favorite pattern mixing combo?

Beach Essentials

Thursday, June 14, 2012

It's been a while since I did a little round-up so I thought I'd share some beach essentials. My husband and I love heading to the beach so he can surf while I relax. I have a obsession with the ocean and it's beauty so I'm always up for the chance to get there.

Color + Pattern!

Tuesday, March 6, 2012

What a fun way to add pattern or color to your wardrobe for Spring. I can't get enough of these. They're all over the place. How funny is it that I had a pair of cords back in middle school that where that teal color in the middle? Too bad they wouldn't fit anymore - and who knows what happened to them!

Baron Wells

Amazing hand-painted Botanical Tee's by Baron Wells.
Buy them in his shop.

Of A Kind

Tuesday, January 10, 2012

I came across Of A Kind recently - and I love getting their emails about their artists featured. This week's edition release featured jewelry designer Laura Lombardi (which also included a story behind her and her work). If you aren't familiar with her work, now is your chance. It's all so stunning. Of a Kind features one of a kind designs available to buy, but only in a limited quantity. Laura's Brass Wave Earrings are only 50 of kind - snatch one while you can.

Collar + Sweater

loving this combo.

Design + Style : #1

Thursday, January 5, 2012

I've decided to start a new inspirational little weekly series combining design + style. I love matching the two together - if this girl had a brand this is what it could be.  Feminine and classic with a bit of a kick.

Color Inspiration

Wednesday, January 4, 2012

I've been on the search for the perfect color inspiration for one of the projects I'm currently working on, and I think Jill Stuart's, Summer 2012 is the perfect find.

Hurbert AW 11

This may be a bit late, but I love Hubert's Autumn / Winter 2011 line. The colors are prefect - burnt orange, cream and black. I love feminine these feel without being too girly.
