Work Attire

Friday, February 1, 2013

Most of the time when people hear 'working from home', they think, 'oh! wearing your pajama's all day!' -- and maybe some people do! But I feel really uninspired and almost 'blah' if I work in sweats all day. Then I read Megan Gonzalez of Mae Mae Paperie's interview with The Everygirl yesterday, and she's SO right. Megan was talking about how she was inspired after reading Twyla Tharp's, 'The Creative Habit' (which I also highly recommend reading!), she explained...

"Yes—you are an artist, but it’s a job. You can’t show up in your PJ’s and expect brilliant ideas and vibrant patterns to be in your client’s inbox by the end of the day."

What do you guys wear while your working? Do you feel that on days when you make yourself presentable you work better? I know I do. When you feel confident in yourself, your creative + work process will follow. Or does working in sweats versus working in jeans not make a difference to you?

I put together a standard outfit you'll usually catch me wearing - jeans, oversized tee + sweater (because of course you want to at least be comfy) and I can't forget my llama necklace from Madewell that I wear everyday (here's a similar giraffe one!).

I don't work from home, but I find when I do things around the house, I feel so much better after I've showered and gotten out of my PJs. I almost feel too sloppy to do anything if I don't! I like wearing relaxed but cute things, like the loungewear from Anthropologie. Cute, comfy and luxe!

I totally agree with what you and @Elizabeth said! I've started working from home about half the week and I'm really trying to set up some good habits. Joy (of Oh Joy) did a really cute post on this a while ago and I try to remember it when I just want to stay in my PJ's until noon! ( http://bit.ly/14vuBGZ )

I think I'll have to check out The Creative Habit! Great post :)

I deal with this every day! Especially now in the winter, it's hard to get out of my sweatpants. I try to at least dress in work out clothes so I'm forced to go to the gym at some point. I definitely feel more motivated and productive when I'm out of my pajamas. My go to is pretty much the same - leggings, oversized sweaters and t-shirts, I'm a tomboy at heart :)

I dress up fully even I'm working at home :) It makes total difference in my creative work. And wearing Make-up also gives me confidence!! I think it's very important to inspire myself in this way :)
