BROOKE FRASER

Monday, May 30, 2011

This woman is amazing. She writes her own music, has a beautiful voice, has a heart for Rwanda, puts so much into her music AND she's gorgeous.

A while back I discovered Brooke Fraser's album What To Do With Daylight, a bit before her second album Albertine. Her newest album Flags is so great. You can read all about her ideas behind Flags on her website. You can also listen to Flags on her home page as well.

For Like Ever

A while back I saw this poster in pink and bright red and thought it was great! Now, I found they also print it in grey! Although, the contrast of the pink and orange is also really lovely.

Relax

Monday, May 23, 2011

As the end of the semester is wrapping up, it's always a bit stressful. However, I'm currently loving these art pieces, the colors are so relaxing and they are a subtle reminder of summer.

Illustrated Capitals

Friday, May 20, 2011

I had so much fun with this project. It was made for my Historical Development of Design class. We had a lot of freedom with the project so, in honor of Jessica Hische's drop caps, I chose to do some illustrated capital letters. I haven't done much hand drawn things but after this, I really would love to incorporate it more into my work.

Coffee & Donut Cupcakes

I love baking. And this coffee and donut cupcake recipe is perfect for a weekend morning!

Elisa Strozyk

Wednesday, May 18, 2011

She has been a huge inspiration for my senior show. I love her textile work. She has easily become one of my favorite artists and I just had to share her with you. The images on the right are works she did with fashion designer Maria Bonita.

Enjoy.

The Vamoose

Another one of my favorite inspirations // The Vamoose. So pretty.

Camila Drozd

Monday, May 16, 2011

Some very lovely work by Camila Drozd. She created the 'I heart it' bookmark featuring her hand lettered type and sent it out to some of her favorite studios and perspective employers when she graduated.

Botanicals

Friday, May 13, 2011

I have a bit of a green thumb. Well, maybe not, because I'm having a hard time keeping some of my plants alive, but I really think that plants add so much to a space. How adorable are these different white vessels? The contrast to the greenery is beautiful. Now if only I can keep my plants alive...

ps. check out that typeface! {i've got an obession with finding new fonts} I think I found my new "go to" font Bebas from here {which is actually one of the best places you can get fonts}.

Rifle Paper Co.

I'm continually swooning over Anna Bond's Rifle Paper Co. products. I can't stop myself going back to her site to see her beautiful illustrations. These are some of her prints she selling.

Mississippi River

Saturday, May 7, 2011

You need to check out this out: in 1944 a cartographer named Harold Fisk traced the Mississippi River in white, and then studied past maps and added colored ribbons showing where he thought the river had flowed in previous decades.

Have a great weekend.

Bikes

Thursday, May 5, 2011

It's been in the 80s & 90s this past week here, so naturally I'm getting excited for summer. And of course biking is a summer time activity. Ryan and I have been talking about eventually getting another bike.  I always like the bikes that look pretty over their practicality. These bikes are bit too pricey for our needs, but they are so great.

Hand Drawn

Wednesday, May 4, 2011

I seriously can't get enough of hand drawn type inspiration. I finally (or at least think, finally) have landed on a logo for me that I love (being a designer and branding yourself is so hard, I keep changing my mind!). And as you can see I included my own hand drawn type in my logo. I've got a scanner on my list of things to get in the future so I can include more hand drawn type in my work in the future.
