Royal Wedding

Prior to this morning, when I woke up to check what Kate wore, I didn't really care much about the wedding. But her dress was gorgeous. It's so simple yet it's still fit for a princess. Even better, I loved Pippa's (love her name!) bridesmaid dress . It looked so great on her! I seriously can't decide which I like more... 1 // 2

Rug Love

Since we moved into our place, I've been on the constant look out for affordable rugs. Its crazy how much they can cost! I think another aspect that is holding me back is choosing the style and color, because I just can't make up my mind. But I'm wondering if the search stops now, as I found a rug for under $100 today! The bottom right grey chevron rug from Urban Outfitters....

Thumbprint Trees

T H A N K S to my wonderful husband, who is a marketing guru, I've had new orders for my custom thumbprint trees. I've also had requests for more pictures. Above are pictures of my own and a tree recently drawn for an order. I've also had a few questions, so I hope this clears up any.

The order includes: a hand drawn tree on 22 x 28" (or smaller) white watercolor paper. I start with the paper size 22 x 30" but 22 x 28" is a close frame size. I recommend when deciding what size you want, making sure there is a standard frame size to match. I chose watercolor paper because it has weight and texture to it. 

You can buy ink pads at your local craft store. I recommend at least two colors to add depth. When picking out your ink pads and pens (for signing), make sure they are non-toxic, this means the ink won't fade over time. 

If you have any requests for specific tree types or font types, don't hesitate to ask! I think  it's really important to help make your wedding day match. If you have any 
other custom request, please email me. 


I tend to ship your tree two weeks (or so) before your wedding date (depending on your location). If you'd like it sooner just let me know!

I'm currently trying to figure out what colors to use for my senior show. Right now I'm loving the gradient (or ombre) look. I don't want to give too much away but for the next six or so months months I'll be working on this piece. I can tell you that it will be a paper installation! These g r a d i e n t s where all from Pinterest (my favorite). 

PALE PINK & BURNT ORANGE

INTERNSHIP

As a requirement for graduating, we get class credit for having an internship. I honestly had no idea what I wanted to do. I think I hadn't spent much time thinking as I thought I would just take what became available. And I was totally happy with what I found... 31 Bits. 


"31 Bits is a Community Based Organization, based out of Gulu, Uganda. We work with displaced women who use their talents to create beautiful jewelry made from recycled paper. 31 Bits is centered around using the creative art and entrepreneurship already present in the women, which empowers them and enables them to have a sustainable income.

31 Bits Designs Northern Uganda is designed to empower vulnerable individuals to rise above poverty through maximizing creative abilities and generating opportunities for sustainable livelihoods. In the 31 Bits program, the women earn an income that allows them to provide for their families, receive financial and savings training, and maximize their creative skills and abilities. We strive to build a loving community that cares for individuals’ spiritual, mental, emotional, and physical needs."

I was so privileged to be a part of 31 Bits when they were in process of re-branding their company. I was able to work with them to create new material for their new design direction. It worked perfectly as my personal style meshed with where they were heading (design wise). Clean, feminine, and simple. 

These are a few examples of what I made while interning with 31 Bits. The first is a general postcard about the company & the second is the tag attached to each jewelry piece. You can see more here. 

Currently, 31 Bits is running a campaign 

featuring Promise Tangeman called The Haven. 

She has become a big inspiration to me 

recently and was so excited when I found 

out that Promise was teaming up with 31 Bits. 

(Thanks to this pretty lady who introduced 

Promise's blog to me a while back).

Not only was interning with 31 Bits a complete 

joy and a great learning experience, but the 

women I met who run it are so amazing and

EASTER

With Easter this coming Sunday, in my History of Graphic Design class we practiced the style of International Typographic Style or Swiss Style by creating a poster about Easter.

PROJECT OVERVIEW

   Jenna came to me asking if I'd help her with her branding for her new photography business. She thought my style and work would go well with what she wanted. I was super excited to start creating some logos for her because this past semester has been kind of quiet, designing wise. I emailed her asking to send me inspiration for an image board so that I could get a better idea of what she wanted. I gave her a list of different examples she wanted to be a part of her branding: pattern, typography, fashion, brands, color scheme, etc. 

   A few things about the images she chose: She loved antique florals. Her color palate was mint aqua and orange. She also loved vintage but modern, simplicity, a mix of structured and hand drawn typefaces. She told me she had a kind of eclectic style and is secretly an "old soul." 

BRANDING

   

   Jenna's branding contained:

     3 // Blog Header

  These are some logos I came up with that I thought would be what she was looking for. I tried lots of different typefaces, going with the more organic and structured ones. I really wanted to use a antique floral pattern that she said she loved so much. 

   In the end, Jenna chose the first (as her logo) and the fifth (middle) (as her watermark). From there I created a simple banner for her blog. But ended up changing the logo to make the flower stand out more as the flower didn't stand out at the size it was on the banner. 

   It was a lot of fun branding for Jenna. I'm excited for her as she follows her dreams and grows her photography business. You can see her work here. 

C H R I S T O P H E P I A L L A T

As I prepare for my Senior Show I'm constantly looking for inspiration that is remotely related to what I'm doing. Christophe Piallat uses butcher paper for these installations! He also uses both natural and artificial light to create the beautiful colors.
