Giveaway : InstaThis

Wednesday, January 30, 2013

I'm all about having Instagram photos printed. These little memories shouldn't just live on our phones, we should live with them everyday. Well, get excited, because I've teamed up with InstaThis to giveaway one of their beautiful 12"x12" wood prints! I decided to have one of my Instagrams from our trip to Hawaii this past fall, printed. I thought it would look killer on wood and I was blown away by the end result!

The print is gorgeous -- you even get a little detail of the wood grain that shows through the image. Plus, InstaThis makes is super easy to hang with a slot in the back, they even send along a screw. I opted to lean my print amongst some other prints in my studio, because I'm always moving things around. This way, I can always have it exactly where I want it.

*Leave a comment below about how a wood print of your favorite Instagram would make a perfect edition to your home / studio. I'll announce a winner a week from today - February 6th (giveaway closes Tuesday at Midnight).

Be sure to check them out -- they even print on Acryllic and in different sizes, so you can create an Instagram gallery in your own home!

+ Thanks InstaThis

Giveaway closed!
The random winner is --- Laura Coggins!

Thanks everyone for playing!

With the new site coming, I've decided I'd like to reshoot any print materials I currently have. This way, it feels a bit more cohesive. I began by searching for various inspiration on styling, color, lighting, etc. Here are a few that stood out. Check them all out ( + more ) on Pinterest.

Top - Notch Type : #32

What's funny about this - I didn't notice the word 'bittle' until after completing this.
And this is how it was quoted when I found it...

Does anyone know if this is a real word?

Head over and check out this weeks Top-Notch for a little 'bittle' of fun.

Black

Tuesday, January 22, 2013

Last week Lindsay Stetson postsed a photo on instagram of new chairs she just got  -- and I quickly became a big fan. I've always been a fan of these Eames plastic arm chairs (we have one in white!), but their is something about the black that stands out to me. It's so sleek looking. I think I'm drawn to it because it's matte. The black also adds the perfect contrast to a room.

Luckily, you don't have to break the bank to get the real thing (maybe one day!), but for now there's this option

Spaces // Chelsea Fullerton

Monday, January 21, 2013

I'm excited to introduce Chelsea Fullerton, graphic designer & photographer behind Go Forth Creative. I met Chelsea this past fall at Design Life and we quickly bonded over our love for Madewell. We're both a bit obsessed. Chelsea has a beautiful eye for both design and photography. Check her out!

Tell us about yourself as a creative.
My two main focuses are graphic design and photography, but like most creatives, I like to dabble. I'm always up for a class or workshop, using a new medium, like video or landscaping.

Describe your creative journey.
Going into college, I didn't have a clear idea of what I wanted to do, but applied for the design program (at UT Austin) with the hopes of liking something in that field. Thankfully, I did! After graduating, I began working for a graphic design firm part-time. For the past five years, I've continued working for Viewers Like You, started my own small business called Go Forth Creative, and picked up some photography skills along the way. I'm happy with the pace at which I've moved post-graduation. I would recommend to anyone starting out to work for another more seasoned creator, before embarking out on your own.

Share a little bit about your space.
My studio is in an art gallery called Flatbed on the eastside of Austin. This gallery is also home to a handful of studio spaces for artists and other creative folks. The building is a converted warehouse so unfortunately, there aren't any windows. Luckily, though, there are very high ceilings, which offsets the lack of natural light.

What's your favorite thing about your space?
My favorite thing in the room is the pegboard wall I made when I moved in. Whenever papers and coffee cups start stacking up on my desk, it makes me feel better to look over at the well-organized wall.

What's one thing you think every creative needs in their space?
For graphic designers, I like to recommend a big computer screen. I work on a 27" iMac and it's great to have multiple windows and programs in sight at once.

Also, I couldn't live without my headphones. Unless you work at home, you've gotta have the option to blast your music when you need to zone out and finish a project.

Thanks Chelsea!

Winter Layers

Thursday, January 17, 2013

Winter is my favorite time of year because it means layers. Then again, winter in California has a completely different meaning then the rest of the country. The past couple weeks have been quite cold, for Southern California. It's really funny seeing everyone's reaction to it -- have you seen this video? Growing up in the mid-west, I know what cold means, but you really do aclimate to temperatures! Although, that video might be a bit absurd...
